Will Cameron Brink Compete in the Upcoming Unrivaled League?

Emotions ran high last month when Unrivaled announced that Cameron Brink would fill one of the league’s wildcard spots, left open after unveiling the team’s roster. After Brink was the second overall pick by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2024 WNBA draft, she suffered a heartbreaking ACL tear just after playing only 15 games, which cut her rookie season short.

Since her injury, fans have been waiting for the 2025 WNBA season so that they could see their star player in action. However, taking into consideration that the women hooper had to play overseas or look for other means of earning during the off-season, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier launched Unrivaled League which will kick-off from January 17th this year, as a way for the players to earn during the off-season, as well as for the fans who did not want to wait much longer to see their star players in action.

However, one question still loomed among the fans, did Brink have enough time to recover? This debate has been finally put to an end, by none other than Cameron Brink herself, which has left fans disappointed. In a recent interview with ESPN on Tuesday, Brink said:

I’m not able to do a ton. I’m just really appreciative that I’m able to be here and that my teammates are super accepting of me and cheering me on from the sidelines. I haven’t been able to do a ton, but [am doing] more and more every day.

While Brink will sit out this season of Unrivaled, the 6-foot-4 star is actively working toward playing in the upcoming WNBA season. It is still worth noting that before her season-ending injury, Brink gave an outstanding performance in the matches she played.

A promising start

Cameron Brink, with one of the best college careers in the history of women’s college basketball, earned a reputation as a prodigy in the sport, and she backed this up with her outstanding skills. In 2024, Brink entered the league of WNBA, where she was all set to play for the Sparks. Before her injury, Brink only played 15 games, out of which she started in all 15 of them and played for an average of 22 minutes per game.

She averaged 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, but before she could fully warm up to her capabilities, an injury cut her season short. As the young star continues the journey of her recovery, every WNBA fan will be waiting to see her back on the court in the upcoming season.
