Caitlin Clark has been under a lot of fire after declining an invitation to participate in a special 3-point contest at the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend. The event would have featured Clark and Sabrina Ionescu competing against Stephen Curry and another NBA player. Instead, the Indiana Fever star chose to focus on the WNBA’s 3-point contest, which will be held in Indiana. Jason Whitlock, known for his controversial takes, didn’t hide his disappointment over Clark’s decision and called her out as a ‘woke idiot.’
“A lot of people watch women’s basketball and it’ll be interesting to see what happens this year now that Caitlin Clark has come out of the closet as a woke idiot and as a feminist and as someone who vows to Black Lives Matter,” Whitlock said. “It’ll be interesting to see how many of us circle back to the WNBA now that Caitlin Clark has revealed herself as not an ally of ours.”
Subria Whitaker backs Caitlin Clark
However, not everyone disagreed with Clark’s decision. Subria Whitaker, a WNBA brand manager and an analyst, expressed her support for keeping the focus on the WNBA. Whitaker took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and posted, “Caitlin going a lil rogue right now, eh? I really don’t wanna see that at OUR All-Star. We already only have 2 other events. Let our girlies get their money and keep them the main thing.”
However, this isn’t the first time her outspoken nature has sparked backlash. Just a few weeks ago, after TIME named Caitlin Clark, Athlete of the Year, she made a statement about her privilege as a white athlete in a predominantly Black league, sparking criticism from fans.

Furthermore, this latest debate adds to the ongoing discussions surrounding her outspoken views and involvement in activism, leaving the conversation open for continued discussion.
