Cameron Brink has quickly established herself as one of the brightest young stars in the WNBA. However, her journey to greatness began at Stanford, where she played a pivotal role in leading the Cardinal to a national championship in 2021, earning multiple All-American honors along the way.
As she finds her way in the WNBA with the Los Angeles Sparks, Brink recently reflected on her NIL days during college in the latest episode of Straight to Cam with Cameron Brink and Sydel Curry-Lee. During the conversation, she opened up about why she chose New Balance over Nike, despite her deep family ties to the iconic brand.
“I really didn’t have an issue, knowing what New Balance stands for and what they do. I did not have an issue being like, ‘I’m gonna go a different direction,” Brink said. “When you’re a Nike kid, I wasn’t allowed to wear any other brands of shoes growing up. They were very serious about it….. It (New Balance) was just the best option for me and my career, and my parents were both retired at that point, too.”
Despite growing up in a Nike-dominated household, with both her father and mother working for the brand, Brink ultimately believed that New Balance aligned best with her career goals.
Performance of Cameron Brink in the 2024 WNBA season
In 2024, the Los Angeles Sparks drafted Cameron Brink into the WNBA. She made an immediate impact, starting in all 15 games she played, averaging 22 minutes per game. During her rookie campaign, she posted 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, showing glimpses of her potential.
However, just as she was finding her rhythm, Brink suffered a devastating ACL tear, cutting her rookie season short. The injury hugely set back Brink and the Sparks, as they expected her to play a key role in their lineup. After her injury, fans were eager to see Brink make her return in the Unrivaled, a 3×3 women’s basketball league that launched in January 2025. Unfortunately, Brink didn’t recover in time and had to sit out the competition, disappointing fans again.
