UCLA Bruins head coach Mick Cronin has proven he leads with a mix of tough love and fierce advocacy. Not long ago, Cronin made headlines for calling out his players after a loss to Michigan, labeling them as “soft” and “delusional.” However, in a surprising turn of events during the Bruins’ recent game against the Maryland Terrapins, Cronin took a different approach. This time, he passionately defended his players—an act that ultimately led to his ejection from the game.
With six minutes left on the clock, Cronin exchanged heated words with officials, leading to his ejection from the game, which ended as the Bruins’ fifth loss of the season. In a post-game interview, Cronin revealed that he got ejected on purpose, and explained his actions, emphasizing his frustration with officiating. He said:
I tried to get thrown out. I had enough. I sent a message. So, I’m tired of it. I know that we’re the outsider, us, USC and Oregon, but that was ridiculous. And that doesn’t take anything away from Maryland. They’re a very good team at home. But, I’ve got to defend my players. If you can just mug guys, chop their arms off and throw them out of the way, it’s hard to run any offense.
After back-to-back losses in their last three games, UCLA is struggling to regain its footing and find the consistency needed to compete at the highest level.
Mick Cronin led UCLA Bruins’ performance so far
Ranked 9th in the Big Ten, the Bruins have played 16 matches so far, in the ongoing season. Out of which they have won eleven of them and lost five. While the Bruins struggle to find their rhythm again after three consequent losses, fans still keep their hopes up, trusting Coach Mick Cronin to get his team back on track. The Bruins will play the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in their next match on Monday.
