The Golden State Warriors made a bold move by acquiring six-time All-Star Jimmy Butler, and according to General Manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., the decision was as close to a “no-brainer” as possible.
In a recent interview on 95.7 The Game, Dunleavy, who played alongside Butler during their time with the Chicago Bulls, spoke highly of Butler’s work ethic, competitive mentality, and leadership—qualities he believes make the veteran forward a perfect fit for Golden State. Having played with Butler early in his career, Dunleavy saw his relentless approach to the game up close. That experience shaped his belief that Butler would be an ideal addition to the Warriors.
“Jimmy, I saw firsthand the work he put in on a daily basis, the way he was coached and drilled. It was fun to see. But I also knew playing with him as a teammate, being in high-pressure situations, being in the playoffs, what it’s like to be in a foxhole with the guy,” Dunleavy said. “And for that reason, I felt he’d be a perfect fit here. I know you age and things change over time, but I knew those were some of his core principles that made him who he is as a pro, and for that reason, just felt like it was as close to a no-brainer as possible for us to make this deal and get a player of his stature.”
The Warriors have faced inconsistency over the past couple of seasons, but adding Butler gives them another battle-tested star to complement Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. His defensive mindset and ability to take on primary scoring duties when needed could be key to reviving Golden State’s championship aspirations.
