Anthony Edwards is facing one of the most challenging seasons of his career. Throughout the 2024-25 NBA season, the Minnesota Timberwolves star has struggled with officiating and hasn’t shied away from expressing his frustration. Recently, his emotions flared again—this time during a heated exchange that could have serious consequences.
In Sunday’s tense matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Edwards’ frustration boiled over midway through the third quarter. After driving to the basket and falling to the floor without a whistle, the Timberwolves star was visibly upset. However, the referee wasn’t having any of it and issued Edwards his 14th technical foul of the season. With his technical count rising, Edwards is now dangerously close to triggering the NBA’s automatic suspension policy.
NBA technical foul policy puts Anthony Edwards at risk!
According to NBA rules, a player who reaches 16 technical fouls during the regular season is automatically suspended for one game and fined $5,000. For every two technical fouls after that, the player faces additional suspensions. With his latest infraction, Edwards is just two technical fouls away from crossing that line. Putting both his availability and the Timberwolves’ playoff hopes at risk.
Given Edwards’ pivotal role in the team’s success, any absence would be a significant blow. His scoring ability and leadership have been crucial for Minnesota, and losing him—even briefly—could hurt their playoff positioning.

Anthony Edwards now walks a fine line between his fiery competitive spirit and the looming threat of suspension. With the Timberwolves currently sitting 7th in the Western Conference, his actions in the upcoming games could determine whether the team climbs the standings or struggles to keep pace without their star player.
