Kendrick Perkins Gives a Hilarious Take on Warriors-Jimmy Butler Move: “They End Up Getting a Nicki Minaj”

The Golden State Warriors made a splash by acquiring Jimmy Butler in a recent trade, aiming to get back up on their feet in the 2024-25 NBA season. However, analyst Kendrick Perkins isn’t convinced that the move makes them serious title contenders. In classic Perkins fashion, he broke down the trade with a hilarious analogy.

In a recent appearance on ESPN’s NBA Today, Perkins reacted to the Warriors landing Butler by using a pop culture analogy that instantly went viral.

The Warriors’ ceiling with Jimmy Butler right now is a first-round exit, okay?,” Perkins said. “Listen. I was looking for the Warriors. I’m thinking that they’re gonna go out there and, you know, go get a Beyonce or Taylor Swift. They end up getting a Nicki Minaj. And that’s OK.

Perkins’ analogy points that while Butler is undeniably talented, he’s not the type of player who can immediately elevate the Warriors back to their championship glory. However, the Warriors have signed Jimmy Butler for two-years, with a $111-Million contract. But is Butler the missing piece they need for another title run? That remains to be seen!

Stephen Curry opens up about the Warriors landing Jimmy Butler

In a post-game interview following the Warriors’ narrow 131-128 loss to the Utah Jazz, Stephen Curry shared his thoughts on Golden State’s acquisition of Jimmy Butler. Acknowledging the team’s recent struggles, Curry expressed both frustration and optimism about the trade.

We’re finding new ways to lose, which is frustrating,” Curry admitted, per Tim Kawakami“But hopefully a new chapter begins now. Biggest thing is just, it creates expectations, which I love. I want to be in that kind of environment, whether you get it done or not. That is meaningful basketball that we all love and thrive in. I think we’re all going to be up for the challenge.
