Jason Whitlock’s recent take on A’ja Wilson marketability sparked a heated response from her brother, who didn’t hold back in defending the WNBA star.
In his latest controversial take, Whitlock dismissed the potential of Nike A’One — Wilson’s 1st signature shoe, saying:
“No one’s gonna buy her shoes. Nike knows it, everbody knows it. There’s no demand for an A’ja Wilson shoe. She’s, for lack of a better description for the WNBA, the Tim Duncan. A great player that everybody respected, but no one was running out to buy Tim Duncan shoes because he plays a boring brand of basketball.”
However, Whitlock didn’t stop there. He also criticized Wilson’s past remarks about Black athletes having to work harder to get recognition. In a previous interview, Wilson had stated, “We grew up, a lot of times, with our parents telling us, ‘You’ve got to work 10 times as hard just to get a foot in the door, let alone to stand out.” But Whitlock countered this statement, saying, “She didn’t grow up in a time where you had to be twice as good to get half the credit or an equal amount of credit.”

However, these comments did not sit well with Wilson’s brother, who took to Instagram to address Whitlock directly. He posted a clip of Whitlock’s remarks, captioning it with a scathing response:
“So Do Yall Hear What This Unseasoned Face Negro Had To Say About My Fam. Excuse @realjasonwhitlock If You Don’t Like My Sis Or Anything Surrounding Her That Much Then Just Keep Her Name Out Your Damn Mouth. You Need To Stop Talking About Any Of These Ladies like This. You Don’t Know What TF She Went Through Coming Up As An Athlete.”
He further slammed Whitlock’s take on Wilson’s shoe deal, pointing out that Tim Duncan’s sneakers were actually popular and still sell for high prices today.
“Then To Say “Nobody Is Gonna Buy Her Shoes 😂 😂 That’s Not Facts, That Hate, Then Try To Compare It To Tim Duncan. If You Knew Your “Culture” Then You Would Know That He Had One Of The Most Popular Sneakers On The Streets, Still Selling For $300+ And Was Just Rereleased Last Year. Of Course You Probably Wouldn’t Know Bc Your Wide Foot Ass Can’t Fit Them. My Sis Has Produced And Solidified Her Stock In The League With No GMO!!!”
While Wilson’s impact on the game is undeniable, her brother has made it clear that she has strong support from her family and fans. With her Nike A’One on the way, only time will tell how successful it will be.
