Flau’jae Johnson Breaks Silence on LSU’s First Loss of the Season to Dawn Staley’s South Carolina: “We Lost That Game in So Many Ways”

LSU Tigers’ undefeated run came to an end on January 24, as Flau’jae Johnson and the Tigers suffered their first loss of the season against Dawn Staley’s No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks. Playing at Colonial Life Arena, the Gamecocks secured a 66-56 victory over the No. 7 Tigers, exposing key weaknesses in LSU’s game.

In the latest episode of Best of Both Worlds with Flau’jae, the junior guard candidly reflected on the defeat, highlighting costly mistakes, a major free-throw disparity, and her shooting struggles.

“We lost that game in so many ways. I feel like we just made a lot of minor mistakes that you can’t make against a great team like that….We really lost on the foul line,” Johnson said. “We only went to the foul line nine times, and they went 26 times….I haven’t shot the ball particularly well. I went 0-for-five from three, I don’t remember the last time I went 0-for-5 or 0-for-anything in a game from three.”

While this loss was a tough blow for the Tigers, Flau’jae Johnson remains optimistic about their redemption. Despite the setback, she believes LSU will learn from their mistakes and come back stronger. Expressing her confidence, she stated, “We are going to get our shot at winning again, and I think we’ll be more prepared.”
